McDonald has the experience and tenacity to put workers first
LANSING, MI — Today, the Michigan AFL-CIO, the state’s largest labor federation and home to over 1 million union members and their families, endorsed Karen McDonald for Attorney General.
Karen McDonald is committed to protecting workers, their families, and their communities. As Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney, Karen McDonald has tenaciously fought for victims of crime, supported safe workplaces and stood up to corporate greed. McDonald is committed to challenging anti-worker actions in court in Michigan and with other Attorneys General across the country — especially threats to the National Labor Relations Board itself.
“Karen understands that workers and their families are the backbone of this state,” said Ron BIEBER, president of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “Karen’s time as Oakland County prosecutor gives her the experience she needs to tenaciously fight for Michigan’s workers as Attorney General. Karen will stand with working families, stop wage theft, and ensure corporations pay their fair share. Union members across Michigan are excited to support Karen McDonald for Attorney General.”
An endorsement from Michigan’s labor movement means more funding, more boots on the ground, and more support from Michigan’s workers — and comes at a critical time for voters. The Trump administration is making life more unaffordable while trampling rights across the country, and people are scared. Michigan needs and deserves a fighter like Karen McDonald.
“I’ve always put workers first as Oakland County’s prosecutor,” said Karen McDONALD, candidate for Attorney General. “As Attorney General, I will continue defending the rights of Michigan workers and their families, eliminate wage theft, and hold powerful corporations accountable. Everyone deserves a fair shot, not just the wealthy and well-connected.”
The Michigan AFL-CIO endorsement process includes a thorough vetting of each candidates’ experience, policy positions, and plan to win. Labor spent hundreds of hours interviewing applicants, reviewing detailed questionnaire responses, and carefully considering the strengths of all contenders. As a labor federation, the Michigan AFL-CIO’s endorsement decisions are determined by a democratic vote of its affiliated unions, with a supermajority needed to endorse.
