LANSING, MI – Today, the Michigan AFL-CIO applauded the introduction of legislation — House Bills 4758 and 4759, and House Resolution 152 — by state House Democrats to assist federal workers in response to the Trump administration’s attacks on labor:
“The right to organize and collectively bargain is fundamental to the ability of people who work for a living to earn a fair wage and benefits. The attack on federal workers and their collective bargaining rights is a test: Trump is coming for the rights of all workers next,” said Ron Bieber, president of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “I am grateful that Michigan’s House Democrats are taking action to aid federal workers who have been discarded and undervalued by the Trump administration, especially given the fact so many of them are veterans. I hope the Michigan Legislature will treat federal workers with the respect they deserve and pass this much-needed legislation.”
The legislative package includes measures to assist federal workers and veterans who are dismissed between 2025 and 2027 through job-search assistance and expedited hiring procedures.
