LANSING, MI — Michigan AFL-CIO Advocates launches billboard and digital ads to hold Representatives John James and Tom Barrett accountable for their votes on the federal budget. Ads will run across their respective districts. In its final form, the bill threatens 25,000 clean energy jobs and billions in investments in Michigan by cutting clean energy tax credits.
The ads will reach hundreds of thousands of constituents in James and Barrett’s districts over the coming weeks, many of whom are unhappy with their representatives’ votes: over 60 percent of Michigan voters believe the federal budget bill would hurt average Americans and their families. Constituents are encouraged to call their representatives and tell them to redeem themselves by putting workers first, not last.
“It’s never a good idea to vote against the needs of your constituents. It’s even worse to do so and then hide from them. Since James and Barrett won’t face the workers whose jobs they destroyed, we’re making it easy for their constituents to get ahold of them. Working Michiganders deserve to know what their elected officials are doing in D.C., especially when they won’t meet face-to-face with their constituents,” said Ron Bieber, president of Michigan AFL-CIO Advocates.
