BATTLE CREEK, MI – This Veterans Day, the Michigan AFL-CIO called on Kellogg’s to honor those who have served our country by returning to the negotiating table and giving BCTGM members a FAIR contract. Of the BCTGM Local 3G members on strike in Battle Creek since October 5, well over two dozen of them have served their country in the armed services and returned to civilian life with a union job.
“Michigan’s labor movement is proud to stand with each and every union veteran across our state. We know when veterans leave military service and join the workforce, good-paying union jobs are their best path to higher wages,” said Ron BIEBER, President of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “Kellogg’s refusal to negotiate in good faith has now put well over two dozen union veterans in the Battle Creek community out of work without pay for more than thirty days. That’s the disgraceful guilt that Kellogg’s carries on Veterans Day.”
“Our Veterans have faced immeasurable odds serving our country. It’s our time to stand up for them and ensure they receive the best contract and that they are treated fairly and with respect while on the job,” said Trevor BIDELMAN, President of BCTGM Local 3G. “Veterans Day is a time every year we remember and respect those who have selflessly served in the armed forces. It’s time that Kellogg remembers that, ends their corporate greed and threats to ship veteran jobs to Mexico, and gets these men and women back to work with a fair contract.”
Over 1,400 BCTGM members in Battle Creek, Nebraska, Pennsylvania and Tennessee have been on strike since October 5. The Michigan AFL-CIO and all of its members stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in their fight for a new contract.
