Endorsed candidates committed to fighting for Michigan’s working class
LANSING, MI — Today, the Michigan AFL-CIO, the state’s largest labor federation and home to over 1 million union members and their families, made critical endorsements in university and state board races ahead of the Michigan Democratic Party endorsement convention taking place Sunday, April 19th.
“After hundreds of hours spent vetting candidates, we’re proud to back candidates committed to fighting for Michigan’s working class,” said Ron BIEBER, President of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “The Michigan AFL-CIO has a long and proud history of mobilizing union members and allies in elections and at conventions. We look forward to the Unity Slate earning the endorsement of the Michigan Democratic Party on Sunday.”
Endorsed candidates receiving the backing of Michigan’s labor movement ahead of Sunday’s convention include:
- Judy Pritchett for Member of the State Board of Education
- Tiffany Tilley for Member of the State Board of Education
- Jordan Acker for Regent of the University of Michigan
- Paul Brown for Regent of the University of Michigan
- Brianna Scott for Trustee of Michigan State University
- Kelly Tebay Zemke for Trustee of Michigan State University
- Shereef Akeel for Governor of Wayne State University
- Richard Mack for Governor of Wayne State University
These candidates join the following candidates who were previously endorsed:
- Garlin Gilchrist II for Secretary of State
- Karen McDonald for Attorney General
- Megan Cavanagh for Justice of Supreme Court
- Noah Hood for Justice of Supreme Court
The Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan’s largest labor organization, is a federation representing forty different labor organizations, eighteen different central labor councils, and eight constituency groups representing over 1 million union members and their families.
