REPORT: Labor Standards in the Clean Energy and Jobs Act
Landmark new clean energy laws took effect in Michigan this week. In addition to setting a 100% clean energy standard by 2040, the bills include some of the strongest and most comprehensive labor protections in the country, to ensure Michigan’s clean energy future is union-made.
The Michigan AFL-CIO has released a new report detailing how these new laws will ensure strong wages, benefits, and safety standards on clean energy projects, provide a just transition for auto, energy, and supply chain workers, and build a diverse, world-class clean energy workforce to combat climate change.
From the report:
- Michigan is one of only two states that have created specific offices to oversee just transition efforts.Â
- Michigan is the only state to include private sector non-utility workers in their just transition efforts.Â
- Michigan has some of the most comprehensive labor standards for clean energy projects in the country.Â
The Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan’s largest labor organization, is a federation representing forty different labor organizations, eighteen different central labor councils, and eight constituency groups representing over 1 million union members and their families.
