Michigan AFL-CIO Endorses Slotkin for U.S. Senate
LANSING, Mich. – Today, the Michigan AFL-CIO announced its endorsement of Elissa Slotkin as she runs to fill the seat left open by Senator Stabenow’s decision not to seek reelection. In Congress, Slotkin has consistently stood with working people and is a fierce ally of organized labor.
“We are proud to endorse Elissa Slotkin for U.S. Senate,” said Michigan AFL-CIO President Ron BIEBER. “Elissa has consistently shown she’s a champion for working families and union members. She understands the challenges working people face and has fought consistently to make sure every worker has access to a good job with fair wages, strong benefits, and the ability to retire with dignity. Elissa’s proven track record of standing up to corporate special interests and fighting to protect our rights in the workplace makes her the right choice to represent Michigan. Workers need her voice in the Senate to keep fighting for us.”
Slotkin will face off against former U.S. Rep. and new Michigan resident Mike Rogers, who during his tenure in Congress, received a dismal lifetime pro-worker voting record score of just 11% from the national AFL-CIO. Rogers has a documented history of attacking retirement and health care benefits and indicated he is open to cutting earned benefits like Social Security and Medicare as recently as last year.
The Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan’s largest labor organization, is a federation representing forty different labor organizations, eighteen different central labor councils, and eight constituency groups representing over 1 million union members and their families.
