Michigan AFL-CIO Endorses Mai Xiong for State House in HD-013
LANSING, Mich. – Today, the Michigan AFL-CIO announced its endorsement of Mai Xiong in the special election to fill the state House seat in District 13, vacated earlier this November by Warren Mayor Lori Stone. Xiong is in her second term as a Macomb County Commissioner, where she made history as the first Asian-American to serve on the board.
“Mai is the best candidate in this race who will continue building on the progress we’ve made for Michigan workers on day one,” said Michigan AFL-CIO President Ron BIEBER. “It is absolutely essential that this seat remain in the hands of an ally to the labor movement who will go to Lansing to fight for working people and stand up to corporate special interests. The Michigan AFL-CIO is proud to stand behind Mai in her campaign for State Representative.”
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Michigan AFL-CIO,” said XIONG, “and their dedicated members, who are tireless advocates for the rights and well-being of working people, and champions of social and economic justice. With their support, I look forward to securing our victory in the special election and building on the significant progress that’s been made in our state.”
The Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan’s largest labor organization, is a federation representing forty different labor organizations, eighteen different central labor councils, and eight constituency groups representing over 1 million union members and their families.
