Savit’s record as Washtenaw County prospector shows he’ll fight for workers
LANSING, MI — Today, the Michigan AFL-CIO, the state’s largest labor federation and home to over 1 million active and retired union members and their families, endorsed Eli Savit for Attorney General. An endorsement from Michigan’s labor movement means more funding, more boots on the ground, and more support from Michigan’s workers — and comes at a critical time for voters struggling to make ends meet.
Eli Savit has a strong history of fighting for workers as Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney. In his role as prosecuting attorney, Savit established an Economic Justice Unit — the only one in Michigan — tasked with holding corporations accountable. This included battling wage theft, consumer-protection initiatives, and suing bad actors to provide relief to working families harmed by shady businesses.
“Eli has been a champion for workers as prosecuting attorney in Washtenaw County, and he’ll be a champion for workers as Michigan’s next Attorney General,” said Ron BIEBER, president of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “From battling wage theft and payroll fraud to ensuring safe and dignified working conditions, Eli Savit will fight to put workers first. Union members across Michigan are excited to support Eli Savit for Attorney General.”
Eli Savit is committed to fighting the big threats to working Michiganders, like wage theft, payroll fraud, labor trafficking and unsafe working conditions. Eli has a demonstrated history of showing up at picket lines, assisting workers entering the workforce, and helping those working towards a dignified retirement.
“I’ve had the privilege of standing with workers on picket lines, in courtrooms, and at the bargaining table — and I know firsthand what’s on the line for Michigan’s working families. That’s why I’m so proud to have the support of the Michigan AFL-CIO. Together, we’re going to make sure that every worker in this state is paid the money they are owed, has access to the benefits they’ve earned, and enjoys safe and dignified working conditions,” said Eli SAVIT, candidate for Michigan Attorney General.
The Michigan AFL-CIO endorsement process includes a thorough vetting of each candidate’s experience, policy positions, and plan to win. Union members spent hundreds of hours interviewing applicants, reviewing detailed questionnaire responses, and carefully considering the strengths of all contenders. As a labor federation, the Michigan AFL-CIO’s endorsement decisions are determined by a vote of its affiliated unions.
