LANSING, MI — Today, the Michigan AFL-CIO released the following statement from President Ron Bieber on the Michigan Court of Claims ruling that directs the Republican House to send nine stalled bills to Governor Whitmer for signature.
“The Michigan Court of Claims ruling will benefit nearly one million Michiganders and is a reminder that the law still matters, even in Trump’s America,” said Ron BIEBER, President of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “We thank the Michigan Court of Claims for its decision to support Michigan’s Constitution. Michigan’s labor movement will continue to use every tool at our disposal to fight worker suppression and support Michigan workers – no matter the failures of others to do the same.”
The lawsuit, filed by Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and supported by labor groups, including AFSCME Michigan, AFT Michigan, MEA, MNA, UAW, and SEIU Michigan, sought to compel Speaker Hall to present House Bills 4177, 4665–4667, 4900–4901, 5817–5818, and 6058, which passed both chambers. These bills provide essential protections for hundreds of thousands of workers’ wages, pensions, and legal rights – impacting nearly one million Michiganders
