Statement from Michigan AFL-CIO President on Vice Presidential Debate
LANSING, Mich. – Tonight, Tim Walz and JD Vance took the stage in the first and only Vice Presidential debate. Tim Walz made it clear he will partner with Kamala Harris to continue investing in American workers, while JD Vance repeatedly defended Donald Trump’s disastrous legacy of tax cuts for billionaires and hemorrhaging Michigan auto jobs. In response, Michigan AFL-CIO President Ron BIEBER issued the following statement:
“Tim Walz has had workers’ backs his entire career. As a longtime union member himself and a fierce champion for pro-labor legislation, he has made it clear that he stands on the side of working people. JD Vance has paraded around the country touting his support for working people despite repeatedly voting against them and staunchly opposing the PRO Act. Just like his running mate, JD Vance is a charlatan in the pocket of corporate billionaires.”
The Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan’s largest labor organization, is a federation representing forty different labor organizations, eighteen different central labor councils, and eight constituency groups representing over 1 million union members and their families.
