DETROIT, MI – Today the Michigan AFL-CIO announced its formal endorsement of Rashida Tlaib for the U.S. House of Representatives in Michigan’s 12th Congressional District. The endorsement follows a vote of the Michigan AFL-CIO General Board, representing over 1 million union members and retirees across Michigan.
“Rashida is a pillar of her community in Southeast Michigan, and she’s been a fighter for working people in Congress since 2019,” said Ron BIEBER, President of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “Whether standing in solidarity with us on the picket line or co-sponsoring the Protecting the Right to Organize Act last year, she’s defended our union freedoms at every opportunity. We’re proud to endorse Rashida and are going to make sure we send her back to Congress to fight for us in August’s primary election.”
Before this year’s redistricting, Congresswoman Tlaib had represented Michigan’s 13th Congressional District since 2019. Rashida has focused on helping her constituents in bold new ways during her tenure, creating four Neighborhood Service Centers in her district to help Southeast Michiganders with college debt, veterans’ services, immigration issues, and much more.
“I am extremely honored and proud to have the endorsement and support of the Michigan AFL-CIO,” said Congresswoman Rashida TLAIB. “Working families are the foundation of our community and I know that the Michigan AFL-CIO has been at the forefront of fighting to improve the quality of life for our families. I look forward to our continued partnership with the over 1 million members of the Michigan AFL-CIO to build a stronger Michigan for all.”
The Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan’s largest labor organization, is a federation representing forty different labor organizations, eighteen different central labor councils, and eight constituency groups representing over 1 million union members and their families.
