BATTLE CREEK – Amidst the score of workers across the country realizing their collective power and going on strike, Michigan Legislative Labor Caucus members today signed on to a letter of support urging Kellogg’s CEO to negotiate in good faith and give BCTGM members the contract they deserve.
State Representative Jim Haadsma, who represents the City of Battle Creek, personally delivered the letter to Kellogg’s plant headquarters. The letter letter from Michigan Legislative Labor Caucus reads, in part:
“Throughout the negotiation process, it is critical that all parties operate and negotiate in good faith. It is unacceptable that Kellogg’s did not provide union officials with a proposed contract in a proper manner prior to Kellogg’s presenting the contract directly to union members… We urge Kellogg’s leadership to return to the bargaining table with union leadership until an agreement is reached in good faith that honors the sacrifices of BCTGM members who have worked on the front line during the pandemic and that allows all new hires to obtain a living wage.”
BCTGM members in Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Battle Creek have been on strike since October 5th. The Michigan Legislative Labor Caucus and the Michigan AFL-CIO continue to stand in solidarity with these members in their fight for a new contract.
BCGTM 3G workers are planning a rally in front of the Kellogg world headquarters at Festival Market Square in downtown Battle Creek at 1pm on Wednesday, October 27th. More details to follow.
