BATTLE CREEK, MI – On Sunday over 1,400 BCTGM members in Battle Creek, Mich., Lancaster, Pa., Omaha, Neb., and Memphis, Tenn, voted to accept the second tentative agreement reached with Kellogg. The strike, which began on October 5th, ends in its tenth week just days before the holidays. The Michigan AFL-CIO and BCTGM Local 3G have released the following statements:
“BCTGM members have spoken, and they have the support of the entire Michigan labor movement behind them as they voted to accept the tentative agreement with Kellogg,” said Ron BIEBER, President of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “The Kellogg Strike has proven that the fight for workers rights will always be the number one priority for the Michigan AFL-CIO.”
“BCTGM members across 4 states voted in favor of their second tentative agreement, deciding to end our Kellogg Strike just days before Christmas,” said Trevor BIDELMAN, President of BCTGM Local 3G. “While we did not get everything we set out to attain, we were able to defeat a permanent two-tier system. Though the Kellogg Strike ends, the fight for workers rights will continue. Our strike created a network of immeasurable support from all reaches of the world and we know the solidarity shown to us will be shown to any others that come together to fight for their rights on the job.”
