TO:                  MICHIGAN PUBLIC EMPLOYEES

FROM:             PUBLIC EMPLOYEE COMMITTEE, MICHIGAN STATE AFL-CIO

DATE:              NOW!

SUBJECT:        STATE BUDGET FY 2011-2012 & YOUR FUTURE

The labor organizations of the Michigan State AFL-CIO Public Employee Committee have joined together to refocus the debate over Michigan’s budget priorities and derail the dangerous legislative agenda being pushed by anti-worker forces in the Michigan Legislature.

Attached to this flyer, you will find the latest in the barrage of laws that have been introduced to turn back the clock in Michigan. Our legislators are supposed to be using our taxpayer dollars to work for us and bring jobs to Michigan.  Instead, the majority-party Republicans have been working overtime to assault our state’s hard-working men and women, white collar and blue collar, private and public alike.

WE ARE FIGHTING BACK AND WE NEED ALL OF OUR MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO SPEAK UP AND SPEAK OUT!

We are putting together a public information and member education campaign around the issues you care about, including:

  •           Preserving PA 312, fairness in bargaining and arbitration for all public workers.
  •           Preserving Prevailing Wage.
  •           Retaining the right to locally organize and collectively bargain with government employees.
  •           Stopping Senate Bill 7, which mandates Public Employees to pay at least 20% of their health care premiums.
  •           Stopping Senate Joint Resolution “C”, which takes away the Civil Service Commission’s authority over local and state Public Employee health care and gives the power to the legislators.
  •           Maintain Democracy for all the people.

You will be hearing much more from the Public Employee Committee in the coming days, weeks and months as we work together for Michigan’s working families! In the meantime, visit and bookmark the Michigan State AFL-CIO website at www.miaflcio.org to stay informed on the issues.

In solidarity,

MICHIGAN STATE AFL-CIO PUBLIC EMPLOYEE COMMITTEE
